Our hand-dipped tapers and spirals are an elegant return to the past. Nothing burns finer than a dipped taper. A bright even flame cast from atop our tapers produces the finest of lights. We make pairs of tapers in both a narrow and wide base (3/4”, 1”) in two different heights, 8” and 12”.  All of our candles are made with beeswax from only Oregon beekeepers.  Always trim the wick to ¼ inch before every use and be sure to place candles away from drafts, vents or air currents.  A bloom or white film may appear.   This is a normal occurance with all pure beeswax.  Bloom can be easily removed by wiping the candle with a soft cloth.  Even though the bloom is easily removable, many people actually desire this effect as it tends to give the beeswax candle a unique and rustic look and feel.

We add no chemicals to our beeswax. All of our wax is 100% natural and we do not filter the wax. The beeswax is not bleached or filled with any additives.  We do not use any toxic zinc or lead core wicks - only cotton core.

Ancient Egyptians recognized the value of beeswax as a preservative, and early Romans fashioned coins from beeswax to pay their taxes. Invention of the candle dates back to about 400 B.C., but the idea to use beeswax to form candles didn't emerge until the Middle Ages. The prohibitive cost of beeswax, though, greatly limited its use and availability; it became exclusively reserved for the wealthy and the Church. In thirteenth century England, beeswax became such a valuable and negotiable commodity that The English Tallow Chandlers and The Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers were charted to regulate and control the beeswax trade. Laws preventing the adulteration of the wax were passed and the penalties for breaking them quite stiff.  In the mid 1800's paraffin, a by-product of crude oil was discovered. Most paraffin waxes burn at a lower temperature than beeswax and are used for most mass produced candles that are sold today.

10 reasons to choose beeswax instead of paraffin!

1. Beeswax candles burn cleaner than paraffin candles, producing very little soot.

2. Beeswax candles burn a lot longer than paraffin candles.

3. Beeswax candles contain none of the harmful chemicals sometimes found in paraffin candles.

4. Our beeswax taper candles are virtually dripless in normal draft free conditions.

5. The light emitted by a beeswax candle is much stronger and brighter than that of a paraffin candle.

6. Beeswax candles have a natural aroma and honey scent, no additives needed.

7. Beeswax is a renewable resource!

8. Beeswax candles can be burned around those with allergies or who are sensitive to strong chemical scents.

9. Natural beeswax candles support our beekeepers; our candles are created out of beeswax produced in Oregon.

10. Beeswax candles do not expire. Beeswax has been found in the pyramids virtually unchanged after 1000s of years.

Beeswax is good for your health

Beeswax candles are regarded not only for their natural aesthetic value. They also emit negative ions, burning beeswax is health beneficial. Scientific studies have found that pure beeswax is the only candle fuel to emit negative ions when burned. They help rid the air of pollutants and also are an electromagnetic radiation neutralizer.  Like a rain storm, which is a negatively charged naturally occuring event, burning beeswax clears the air. This happens when negative ions attach to positively charged ions. Airborne contaminates such as dust, mould and odours are held aloft by positively charged ions. Negative ions are drawn toward positive ions, latch on and the now weighted contaminates fall to the ground to be swept up and vacuumed leaving the air cleaner, fresher and healthier. A rainstorm is a good example of a negative ionic event and that is why the air smells fresh and clean after a rainstorm. Therefore : Regularly burning pure beeswax candles is beneficial for people who suffer with asthma, hay fever, allergies or strong chemical sensitivity. Because negative ions reduce electrical equipment radiation, beeswax candles are beneficial for people with strong electric sensitivity too. It is recommended burning them for at least 5 minutes a day in rooms where TV’s, computers or other similar equipments with radiation are situated.

Burning Paraffin Candles is harmful to your health

An emerging air quality problem is soot from paraffin candles. Scented and aromatherapy candles are the major culprits. Experts report that computers have been ruined, and in some instances there is so much soot generated from burning candles that it is causing severe damage to many homes and furnishings, and homeowners are mistakenly suing their builders, furnace and HVAC companies for improper installation of the systems.

Unfortunately, soot from paraffin candles can also be toxic. Breathing soot is not recommended at all. The soot particles can travel deep into the lungs. Those with asthma, lung or heart disease are particularly vulnerable. Scented and aromatherapy candles are made with paraffin and synthetic fragrance oils. Paraffin is a petroleum product - a byproduct of oil refining - and most fragrance oils used for candle making are petroleum-based synthetics. The soot from these materials can contain carcinogens, neuro toxins and reproductive toxins.

Testing and air chamber analysis by the EPA has found the following compounds in a random group of over 30 candles tested: acetone, Benzene, Trichloroflromethane, Carbon disulfide, 2-Butanone, 1,1,1-Trichloroethane, Carbon tetrachloride, Carbon Black (soot) Particulate Matter <2.5 microns, Trichloroethene, Tetrachloroethene, Toluene, Chlorobenzene, Ethylbenzene, Styrene, Xylene, Phenol, Cresol, Cyclopentene, Lead, Lead (Inorganic Airborne Contaminant).

Besides these chemicals 30 percent of the metal wire wicks used in some candles can contain lead. The reason scented and aromatherapy candles are the usual culprits is because the fragrance oils are unsaturated hydrocarbons and they soften the wax so that it doesn't burn cleanly. Container candles are even worse since the oxygen necessary for a clean burn doesn't reach the flame properly.

SOLUTION: BEESWAX CANDLES

The good news, there is a healthier way to enjoy the essence and tranquility of candles. Use Beeswax candles which offer a honey scent, a golden flame, and the longest, cleanest burn of any candle.  Not all Beeswax candles are created equally. A candle may legally be labeled “beeswax” if it contains as little as 10 % beeswax. If it doesn’t say “100%” or “pure” beeswax on the label, it probably is not.
